Sade Sati is the Vedic astrological period of 7.5 years during which Saturn transits through the 12th, 1st and 2nd signs from the natal Moon. It is considered one of the most significant — and challenging — transit periods in Vedic astrology as Saturn directly pressures the Moon, which governs the mind, emotions and daily rhythm. The analysis uses the sidereal zodiac with Lahiri ayanamsa. The reading determines whether you are in an active Sade Sati, precisely which phase (Rising, Peak or Setting), intensity, phase start and end dates and exact days remaining until transit exit.

Where it comes from

Sade Sati means "the seven and a half" and is the best-known transit in Indian astrology — well enough known outside astrology that people in India speak of being in it the way others speak of a difficult year. It is the stretch during which Saturn crosses the three signs centred on the natal Moon, and since Saturn takes about two and a half years to a sign, that comes to seven and a half years, arriving roughly every thirty.

How the method works

The Moon in Indian astrology governs the mind, the emotional temper and the rhythm of ordinary life, and Saturn is the planet of limit, delay and weight. Sade Sati is read as Saturn applying pressure directly to that. It has three phases of about two and a half years each. The rising phase, with Saturn in the twelfth from the Moon, is read as loss of support, expense and the removal of things leaned on. The peak, with Saturn on the Moon itself, is the heaviest and is read as pressure on the mind and mood directly. The setting phase, with Saturn in the second from the Moon, is read as the accounting — finances, family, speech, what is left. How often does it come?: About every thirty years, since that is Saturn's orbital period. Most people go through two of them in a lifetime and some through three.
