Ayurveda Dosha

Discover your Ayurvedic constitution — Vata, Pitta or Kapha

Ayurveda is one of the oldest medical systems in the world (5000+ years), based on the concept of three doshas: Vata (air+ether — movement and creativity), Pitta (fire+water — transformation and ambition) and Kapha (earth+water — stability and endurance). A 25-question questionnaire across 8 categories (body frame, skin and hair, digestion, sleep, temperature, mind, emotions, energy) determines your unique dosha profile. Results are classified as single type (>50% dominance), dual type (<15% difference between top two) or rare Tridosha type (<10% difference across all three). The interpretation covers constitution, diet, routine, seasonal vulnerability and practical balancing advice.

Where it comes from

Ayurveda is the classical medical tradition of the Indian subcontinent, set down in the Charaka Samhita and Sushruta Samhita and taught continuously since. Its organising idea is that the body is governed by three functional principles built from the five elements — vata from air and ether, pitta from fire and water, kapha from earth and water — and that each person is born with a particular proportion of the three, the prakriti, which stays constant through life.

How the method works

A twenty-five-question inventory across eight areas — frame and build, skin and hair, appetite and digestion, sleep, response to temperature, mental style, emotional pattern and energy through the day — asks you to pick the description that fits best. The answers are tallied by dosha and expressed as percentages. The result is then classified: a single type where one dosha is clearly dominant, a dual type where the top two are close, and the uncommon tridoshic type where all three sit near each other. Classical practice distinguishes prakriti, the constitution you were born with, from vikriti, the current state — a questionnaire answered about how you are right now measures the second, which is why the traditional instruction is to answer about how you have been for most of your life.

What a reading covers

A reading gives your dosha percentages and type, the constitution traditionally described for it, the foods, daily rhythm and season the tradition associates with balance for that type, and where it holds that type tends to go out of balance. It is a description of a traditional system and is not medical advice or a diagnosis.

Common questions

What does a dual type mean?
That two doshas are close enough that neither governs alone. It is the most common result and the tradition treats it as normal rather than as an unclear answer.
Can my dosha change?
The tradition says the constitution you are born with does not. What changes is the current balance, which is a separate reading and the thing the classical regimens address.
Is this a health assessment?
No. It is an account of a traditional typology and carries no diagnostic weight. Anything to do with your health belongs with a doctor.
